We recently had the opportunity to review some coffee samples from Door County Coffee & Tea Company! They arrived quickly and we couldn’t wait to try them! It’s always a good day when we have new coffee to brew.
There were 2 flavors sent to us to try. One of them was the newest flavor, “Frosting on the Cake”. The aroma inside the bag when you first open it reminds me of the air that hits you when you walk into a bakery. This is the first sample that we tried.
Having nearly boiled water ready on hand, we set up the cup and get our Hario V60 brewer ready to make a delicious cup of coffee. If we thought the smell of the coffee in the bag was enticing, the cake aroma that filled the air immediately after we started pouring topped it. This relatively dark roast was surprisingly smooth and the cake flavor definitely didn’t overpower the coffee. After first tasting it, I looked at Steph and told her “this is a cake and coffee without the cake” and continued to enjoy the cup. Their pre-ground coffee has a nice “medium” size grind which works well for our pour over brewers. Door County Coffee also offers this coffee in decaf and as the whole bean.

The second type of coffee that we received was their “Coconut Cupcakes” flavor. We received one of their Coconut Cupcakes “Full Pot Bags” which is enough coffee to make a 10-12 cup pot of coffee. We don’t have a drip brewer to make a full pot, but rather we were able to use a small portion to brew a cup at a time. We went through the same process as we did with the “Frosting On the Cake” flavor and the results were great! After opening the bag, we caught slight hints of coconut with the smell of the coffee itself. The smell and flavor became much more pronounced after brewing it. We agreed that this coffee, without any cream, tastes just like an Almond Joy candy bar. If you are an Almond Joy fan, you’ll love this coffee!

To us, there’s no better way to wrap up a busy day than to sit down and enjoy a good book, in our case the Bible, along with a great cup of coffee.
