Recently, we had a great opportunity to try out a dinner from chefd.com! Chef’d was running a promotion on their Facebook page, and we were selected to receive a meal in the mail courtesy of them. If you’re interested in learning about how Chef’d works, we would love to share our experience with you!
Cost: With Chef’d the prices vary depending on ingredients needed, but most two-serving meals are about $30. Shipping is extra for orders under $40.
Our Thoughts and Impressions:
We were amazed at how fast our meal kit arrived and surprised by the size of the cheerful orange box.
When I first heard we were going to be receiving chicken through the mail, I was really hesitant at the thought. However, with Chef’d they take special care to pack their meal kits very well in an insulated cased box. Very cold on arrival! Though it may seem like a lot of packaging for just a few items, they have the right amount of ingredients needed for your meal. Everything is safe to eat thanks to all this detailed packaging!
The name of the dinner we received was the new Visit Cayman Islands Piña Colada Chicken with Coconut Barley Risotto from Chef Jolene Nelson!
The ingredients of our gourmet meal kit were pre-portioned, high-quality and freshly sealed! Each piece was wrapped up very nicely in its own container or packaging. I mean just look at the detail that goes into each package!
The printed visual instructions (with pictures!) were very clear and easy to follow all the way from prep to cooking to plating! On their detailed recipe card, you will find plating instructions, required equipment, what you need from your pantry (Salt, Olive Oil, Pepper in our case), allergens, and a phone number in case you need assistance.
The only two issues I see with Chef’d be the amount of packaging and how this kit could be a bit intimidating for beginners for cooking. There is a lot of packaging for a single meal involved, and that could be a turn-off for some. Also, I’ve been cooking for several years now and know the rules for sanitation when working with poultry and prepping for my meals. However, with such concise instructions, I can see how this could be troublesome for beginners. You will need to have some basic cooking essentials when ordering these kits to avoid getting sick or wasting your time and money. Pay close attention to the difficulty level of the dish and make sure you have all of the required cooking equipment before getting started.
The results were fantastic! A delicious and very colorful gourmet dinner made right at home! Chef’d not be on the list of budget-friendly meals in your week-to-week meal plan, however, the upside to that is Chef’d is not a subscription service. So you are not tied to having to purchase meals monthly. This is for those special days and only when you so choose! You can pick a meal whenever you choose or feel is convenient for you. There is a large variety of food and diet options available on their site so there is a lot to choose from when deciding what is going to be for dinner! This is a great way to find a dinner when you have guests or family over and you’re not sure what to cook or have the time to search for a recipe suitable for everyone or the time to find all the right ingredients. Having this food kit delivered right to your home with everything you need is just so convenient! With chef’d, you don’t have to worry about finding fresh ingredients that may not be available locally to you.
My husband and I were very pleased! We had a delicious and filling gourmet meal for two and we even had leftovers for lunch the next day. This meal was so simple to make and it is a great idea for when you just want to have an “eating out” date night but don’t feel like leaving your home. We will be ordering from Chef’d in the future for sure!
