“This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, …” – Revelation 1:1
Let’s focus on the word “servant”… in 2016, not many people like to hear the word servant, let alone think about being a servant. This, however, flies in the face of everything that Christ taught us in the Gospel’s of how to act while we are here on this Earth. The word servant in Revelation 1:1 means us as Christians. We are to be servants of Christ and others. Mark 10:45 puts it clearly… “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” I believe it’s of the utmost importance to us as people, let alone Christians, to not allow success, money, experience or anything we acquire in this life to inflate our opinions of ourselves to the point that we start thinking we no longer have to be a servant.
I heard a question today that really shook me when I thought about it… it’s inspired by Revelation 1:1…
“If you are curious about whether or not you have the heart of a servant… what kind of reaction do you have when you are treated like a servant?”
The next time someone with authority over you wants to show you something, teach you something or correct you in something… will you listen, be obedient and act like the servant that Christ wants us to be?
Will we choose to walk in a way that isn’t in line with the servant’s heart that Christ had?
